Miss America’s ‘Solo’ act turns Twitter to drink

Miss America’s solo act played big on Twitter.

The hashtag #solocup was trending after Miss New York’s Kira Kazantsev helped seal the title of Miss America with a cup-pounding show of dexterity using a plastic red cup while sitting cross-legged and singing Pharrell Williams’ feel-excellent anthem “Pleased.”

Viewers of the primetime ABC broadcast from Atlantic City took to social media late Sunday to weigh in on her act. She beat out rival parade contestants who sang, danced, played the piano and even showcased a ventriloquist act.

Kazantsev, 23, a Hofstra University graduate from Manhattan, stole her cups act from a scene in the 2012 film “Pitch Perfect.”

It drew the full spectrum of social media responses, from a tiara crowned on a Solo cup to thoughts the judges were drinking heavily backstage.
