Cathedrals Of Culture

Billed a ‘film project in 3D about the souls of buildings’, this ambitious portmanteau documentary comprises six 30-minute films, in which directors (including Wim Wenders and Robert Redford) anthropomorphise an iconic piece of architecture. Among those featured are Berlin’s Philharmonie, Paris’ Centre Pompidou and a Scandinavian prison.

Over the course of the imposing running time a degree of repetition creeps in, not least in the first-person voiceovers. Yet the expansive camerawork in, around and through these striking edifices lets us experience them anew.
