Toronto World MasterCard Fashion Week Fall 2015- Day 2

With the second day of World MasterCard Fashion Week at David Pecaut Square in Toronto now perfect, the Fall 2015 runways revealed an array of glamorous, flowing frocks, warm rich shades and a sleek update on classic layers. From Helder Diego’s studio show to a dramatic accurate which celebrated designer David Dixon’s 20th anniversary, here’s Real Style’s report on Day 2 of WMCFW.

Helder Diego

1) Helder Diego: The Toronto mark founded by Helder Aguiar and Diego Fuchs has officially rebranded itself as Helder Diego, after making its debut as BLAK.I in 2010. As the designer mark certainly makes a name for itself with its latest Fall 2015 looks, it couldn’t be a better time to pick out a clear new identity! At Helder Diego, vivid colour-blocked dresses in black and magenta made their way onto the airstrip. The contrasting shades made for a striking colour combination. From draped frocks to sleeveless halter necklines with a 1990s touch, autumn dress designs were chic and original.

NARCES

2) Narces: Known for making stunning vintage inspired dresses, Toronto-based designer Nikki Wirthensohn did not disappoint at Narces’ Fall 2015 show. The evening wear line showcased Ancient Hollywood elegance with subtle sheer panels, white laser cut designs and lace. Hints of sparkle, pops of bold red, a quirky lipstick inspired print and stitching also made their way onto dresses.

Vawk

3) VAWK: At VAWK, designer Sunny Fong was inspired by the 2009 animated tap Gray With A Chance of Meatballs. Naturally, this led to deep, inviting shades of fuchsia, orange and bright pink on flowing trousers and bold dresses. Toronto supermodel Stacey Mackenzie made an unexpected splash on the airstrip, as she strut the footbridge in a cut-out, colour-blocked creation.

SUBWAY STYLE

The Toronto-based mark also partnered with Subway Restaurants for its new Dot Du Jour collection for Fall 2015. From strapless frocks with digital prints of lettuce and cucumber to shades of white and teal, style was on the menu. Creative director Fong even used Subway cups and plastic wrappers to make edgy, original dresses.

Melissa Nepton

4) Mélissa Nepton: At Mélissa Nepton, the 1970s inspired collection had a theme of “romantic fighter.” The Montreal designer combined black and white geometric prints with statement wool swing coats, hints of tangerine and casual soft greys. Bold patterned vests were layered over monochromatic black, while sweet pastel shades were paired with tracksuit-style skirts for a relaxed vibe.

DAVID DIXON

5) David Dixon: The evening’s shows came to a dramatic conclusion with an emotional and empowering show from Toronto-born, Ryerson University School of Fashion-trained designer David Dixon, who celebrated his mark’s 20th anniversary.Inspired by Joan of Arc, the milestone Fall 2015 show opened with the French heroine’s well-known quote “I am not worried; I was born to do this.” Dixon featured airy black gowns with long capes, voluminous tiered frocks, cinched waists, striking white pencil skirts and oversized furry jackets. The show closed with the tunes of Incredible Grace, a fitting melody for the gracious designer.
