For eco-friendly fans of German sportswear brand adidas, it looks like good fashion news is in the air, just in time for Earth Day. Adidas has announced a new partnership with the sustainable group Parley for the Oceans, which strives to preserve the world’s ocean waters. Parley for the Oceans consists of artists, musicians, directors, fashion designers and other professionals who aim to maintain this ecosystem.

According to adidas Group, the brand will join forces with the ocean conservation group to “co-make fabrics made from Ocean Plastic waste which we will integrate into our product.”

As a first step, Reuters reports that adidas is set to stop using plastic bags at its 2,900 retail tales. Adidas Group also reports that it plans to use the ocean’s plastic waste in its designs, from 2016.

With tomorrow marking Earth Day, the focus on ocean conservation is perfect timing. Also, the thought of future athletic wear made from the ocean’s waste is an fascinating plotting, and could potentially turn devoted sneakerheads into environmental activists!
