After 20 cycles of tears, hair, and Tyra mail, America’s Next Top Model is showing no signs of slowing down. The show is returning with sequence 21 — the second competition featuring guys and girls premieres on Monday, Aug. 18 — and promises to deliver everything we like about the show. Of course the main draw is Tyra Banks herself.

A fierce supermodel in her own right, she has always made sure that she is the star of the series. And in order to be on top, she has to always model from “H to T.” But she hasn’t always gotten the “H” part right. Tyra can certainly smize but her hair hasn’t always given her reason to. With that in mind, we decided to rank every sequence of the series according to the model’s signature hairstyles.

We reviewed them all — the fierce bobs, the weaves, the red phase — and had to make some tough decisions when it came to the show itself. All-Stars is one of our favorite cycles. (How could it not be with all the girls returning for another dose of drama?) But when it comes to Tyra’s hair, there is not much to fondly remember.

And then there’s the most iconic look of all time: her shoulder-length, Jennifer Aniston-inspired haircut at the height of her red phase. You know which one — the hair that she had when she yelled at Tiffany to “be silent!”

When she have a freak out like that, it’s hard to forget everything about what Tyra was wearing or doing. Her mad face was as red as her hair.

If you can’t get enough of ANTM then check out all the previous winner’s final photo spreads, which appeared in the pages of Elle, Nylon, and Seventeen.
