Grace Of Monaco

Eviscerated at this year’s Cannes, Olivier Dahan’s bio of a post-Hollywood Grace Kelly (Nicole Kidman) doesn’t improve away from the festival hysteria. Showing her as the candid wife of Prince Rainier of Monaco (Tim Roth), Kidman is lost as Grace, with Dahan’s camera swooning all over her in an attempt to probe her mug for psychological insight.

Admittedly, it’s a courageous man that tries to combine a glossy Tinseltown tale with geo-politics, as Rainier tries to fend off his principality from French interests. But Dahan never gets to grips with the era, his star or his subject. Lamentable and laughable.
