Harvey Weinstein gabs at Tribeca Talks, but not about grope

If any audience member was expecting Harvey Weinstein to discuss the recent groping scandal at his “Tribeca Discussion” chat at the SVA Theatre on Saturday, he was sorely disappointed. No mention was made.
Instead, the grateful soldout crowd was regaled with softball tales of how films like “Excellent Will Hunting” and “The Artist” came to be made by Weinstein.
The 63-year-ancient told the crowd that “Excellent Will Hunting” formerly had Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio attached and the only reason Ben Affleck and Matt Damon decided to go with Weinstein was because he questioned a scene in the script where the two male professors perform oral sex on each additional. They confessed, “That’s the red herring. We know you’re the first guy from a studio to have read the script. . . . We’re making it with you because you read it.”
Weinstein also admitted he’s not crazy about the recent extension of the Oscars’ Best Picture category from five to up to 10. “I like the tradition of the Academy,” he said. “Place in a Best Comedy if you want to delineate something. The Golden Globes do it, I don’t think it’s heresy to do that and it’s probably commercial. Maybe we should have action to make the Academy a little more commercial and wider. I still think Best Picture should be the five best.”
Weinstein also conceded that the first time he ran into Steven Spielberg after Miramax’s “Shakespeare in Like” won Best Picture over “Saving Private Ryan” was a tad frosty. “I don’t think it was a lovefest,” he noted. “That was a tough one.”

Weinstein said that his daughters, Lily and Emma — who had skipped the ceremony to watch “Annie” — kidnapped the statue and posed it adjacent to Ken, dressed in Barbie clothes.
And the Queens native says he has good pal James Dolan to thank for getting him into the television business. The Cablevision head advised him to go into television, “because idiots go into television and you’re the largest f—— idiot.”
Weinstein added dizzily that Dolan denies using the F-word, but “100% he did.”

HARRIS IS ALL THE BUZZ
All that “Adderall Diaries” actor Ed Harris needs for a pick-me-up is a cup of joe. “I just started effective on a script. I’ve never really been a very disciplined writer, but I find that if I get up first thing in the morning, make myself a cup of coffee and go in there and sit down, I really accomplish something for a couple of hours,” Harris told Confidenti@l at the Tribeca Film Festival screening of the tap. Harris also told us he’s looking for a household in Montana, after filming “Appaloosa” there. “I’ve been looking for a material goods … so I’m very excited,” he said.

RICHARDS IN BAD STATE OF THE REUNION
Friends of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Kim Richards say Tuesday’s dramatic “reunion special” led to her arrest Thursday.
A fight with her sister Kyle over an incident in which Kim’s dog bit Kyle’s daughter — which became a report line in the fifth season of the show – was “very stressful” for her, insiders said.
The airing of the special dredged up terrible blood and tipped Richards’ over the edge, according to a friend.

The pal spoke with Richards a few hours before her allegedly drunken meltdown at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel, and said she seemed “in good spirits,” but said when word came about her arrest, the reunion immediately came to mind.
“Obviously Kim has her demons. She’s an alcoholic, she’s been to rehab. She has a lot going on in her life right now. The show is stressful, her and Kyle fighting (is also stressful),” said the source, “Watching that on TV brings it all back up and watching it on TV was stressful.”
The friend added that “the other housewives are rooting for her to get better.”
Richards was arrested early Thursday after staff at the bar called police because she allegedly hid in a bathroom when they questioned her to leave for being “unruly,” according to TMZ.
HAPPILY OUT OF THE WORK FORCE
Like any other fan, George Lucas saw the new “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” trailer (below) on TV, and he’ll see the movie when it hits theaters. “I’m excited — I have no thought what they’re doing,” the “Star Wars” creator told host Stephen Colbert during a Tribeca Film Festival chat. Lucas said “the one regret of doing ‘Star Wars’ is I never got to see it” as an ordinary fan. “This time it will be very gripping.” Lucas joked that he’ll attend the debut as his favorite “Star Wars” character: George Lucas.
