Melissa Rivers distraught as mom Joan Rivers is in medically induced coma
Sharky / Splash News/Sharky / Splash News Melissa Rivers rushed to New York to be with her mother Joan Rivers. Distraught daughter Melissa Rivers was an emotional wreck Friday while awaiting a medical update on her comatose mother’s shape up, a source told the Day after day News.
Melissa, who flew in Thursday from California with son Cooper, was expected to hear from doctors at The Mount Sinai Hospital about mom Joan’s prognosis.
Joan Rivers, 81, was positioned in a medically induced coma Thursday after going into cardiac and respiratory arrest during a routine doctor’s visit.
Melissa Rivers, her mother’s only child and reality television co-star, reached the hospital around 8 p.m. Thursday.

The source said friends are helping to watch Cooper as Melissa deals with her mom’s uncertain medical situation. Melissa is staying in her East Side apartment in the same building where mom Joan lived.
Doctors are unsure how long Rivers went without breathing, and are still trying to assess how her sudden collapse might affect the caustic comedienne and fashion critic.
City EMTs rushed an unresponsive Rivers to the hospital after a 911 call at 9:40 a.m. Thursday.

Melissa Rivers, after visiting her unconscious mother, issued a Thursday night statement thanking “everyone for the overwhelming like and support for my mother.”
But there was no word as to when Joan Rivers might be brought out of the coma or what the next step in her recovery could be.
