Moviefone 5: Ranking the Superman Movies

This weekend, “Man of Steel,” the latest on-screen incarnation of Superman, opens wide. Superman is a notoriously hard character to bring to the screen — there were several aborted attempts before 2008′s “Superman Returns” materialized, and that wasn’t exactly the runaway success that everyone had hoped it would be.

Which is why it’s worth looking back on the previous Superman movies (there are five!), to see what worked and what didn’t work. Hopefully “Man of Steel” will soar above them all, but even if it doesn’t, there are some decent entries to fall back on.
