Nicole Kidman getting sued for flooding in apartment
Actress Nicole Kidman says she lives further than Hollywood to avoid the fishbowl but her downstairs neighbor in the West Village says she made a fishbowl in his apartment.
Leonard Steinberg’s insurance company, Nationwide Material goods & Casualty, is suing the “Eyes Wide Shut” star for $ 46,928.83 for hurts they say were caused by a burst pipe in the actress’s $ 10 million condo in January 2012.
In papers filed Monday in Manhattan Supreme Court, Nationwide says Kidman had authorized a service provider, New Industries Inc., to bed in a copper pipe to bring water to her terrace but the service provider didn’t bed in insulation or heat tape around the pipe.
When the ride out got bitter cold, the pipe froze and burst, sending a cascade of water from Kidman’s unit into Steinberg’s, the suit says.
Kidman and her husband, musician Keith Urban, bought the apartment at 200 11th Ave. in December 2010.
The building is noted for its sweeping views of the Hudson and the fact that each condo unit has its own private parking spot in the sky by virtue of a freight elevator that is used to raise and lower private vehicles.
That feature makes it attractive to celebrities trying to avoid paparazzi.
Kidman and Urban, both native Australians, spend most of their non-effective time at their Nashville, Tenn., home with their two daughters.
The “Days of Thunder” star told a composition trade publication recently: “I have purposefully realigned my life so that I’m not living in a fishbowl.”
