Sam Lutfi is out to clear his name in the wake of Amanda Bynes’ recent troubles.

The former administrator of Britney Spears penned an essay for xoJane in which he clarified why he required to help the 28-year-ancient star last week, by convincing her to restore to Los Angeles so her parents could place her under a psychiatric hold and get her treatment at a Pasadena hospital.

In the piece, published Friday, Lutfi takes issue with the media describing him as “shady” or a “Svengali,” and said that he instead considers himself a “problem solver.”

“I’ve worked in Hollywood for a long time, and over the years these experiences have led me to see what happens when too much fame and too much money can sometimes get the best of celebrities,” he wrote.

“I care about helping people get out of what may seem like some of their more hard places in life,” he added. “Which is why you have seen me associated with some of the more well-known celebrities when they are in their most trying hours: Britney Spears, Courtney Like and now Amanda Bynes.”

Lutfi said that his association with these stars means that “my name has been dragged through the mud more times than I can count.”

“If I need to be slandered in order to help other people get better — or to help their reputations get better — I have absolutely no problem with that,” he added.

“It’s never been about me. It’s been about them.”

He then shared a Facebook exchange with Like, and reveals that the rocker persuaded him to speak out and “stop the misinformation campaigns” about him due to media coverage of Bynes.

The essay includes a text message from Like, in which she praises Lutfi for being an “enormous help” to Bynes.

“He has been helping me for almost seven years and has never once done anything out of life or weird or incorrect,” she added.

As for Bynes, Lutfi says that he is “effective closely” with her family as the star is “getting the help she needs.”

“(Let us) go on from the tabloid sensationalism of her ‘breakdown’ and instead concentrate on what a rare, talented young woman she has always been and continues to be.”

Lutfi’s essay was met with skepticism in the comments section, with one reader pointing out that it comes off honestly hypocritical to write an essay about helping Bynes if he truly wants people to focus on the actress rather than him.

“If it’s not about you, then, um, don’t make it about you,” the commenter pointed out.
