United have agreed a deal to sign the Sporting Lisbon defender, with Nani moving the other way on a season-long loan.

Prompt Sport understands United will pay £16million for the Argentina global in addition to allowing Nani to rejoin his former club.

And Rojo arrived in Manchester last night to undergo a medical at The Bridgewater Hospital.

Rojo flew into the UK yesterday with agent Carlos Goncalves and arrived at the hospital at around 11pm.

The 24-year-ancient posted a picture on Instagram with Goncalves, adding: “With my friend Carlos”.

Red Devils boss Van Gaal wants Rojo to play at left wing-back or on the left side of his three-man backline.

Rojo’s go had been delayed by a row between Sporting and third-have fun investment group Doyen Sports, who own 75 per cent of his registration.

But United managed to overcome the hurdle, with the World Cup star tenacious he can impress at Ancient Trafford, having been told all about the club by Argentina icon Juan Sebastian Veron.

“It’s a marvel to play at Manchester United and I am very proud of having the chance of effective with Van Gaal,” Rojo said.

“I spoke with Juan Sebastian Veron about Manchester United when we were at Estudiantes.

“I have always liked English football and I should adapt to this new playing style easily.”

United confirmed last night that the deal is subject to a medical and personal terms.

“#mufc has reached covenant with Sporting Lisbon to sign defender Marcos Rojo, subject to a medical and personal terms,” they tweeted.
