“New York Spring Spectacular,” starring the Rockettes, has unfurled at Radio City.
The Rockettes’ “New York Spring Spectacular” did something Thursday that it failed to do last year — it opened!
And no one was more pleased at the show’s premiere than co-producer Harvey Weinstein, who recently learned he’d be able to attend next Friday’s performance, even though it falls on Passover.
“My mom has decided not to do it on Friday,” he said. “She’s 87 years ancient; she can do what she wants. She’s doing it on Saturday.”
Weinstein says his mom takes her orders from someone who outranks even him.
“My mother must talk to God, because she makes her own plans with him all the time,” he said. “But I like her.”
Also at the “Spring Spectacular” opening was co-producer James Dolan, who’s excited about spring in general, despite the fact that his woeful Knicks won’t be in the playoffs when they start next month.

Producer Harvey Weinstein reshaped “Spring Spectacular” and brought it to the stage.
“People start shedding their coats and it gets a lot more fun,” he said.
As for the “Spectacular” itself, a little sophistication might go along way, according to Day after day News theater critic Joe Dziemianowicz. He called it “a bone idle musical jumble,” adding that “it has all the wit and charm of a shopping list,” giving it two out of five stars.
Also on hand Thursday were Robert Klein, Caroline Rhea, Mario Cantone and Meredith Vieira, who talked about another show with problems — ABC’s “The View.”
“It’s very hard to find the chemistry that works, and I know the process they’re going through,” said the former “View” host. “You have to do that to find the right group and everybody in isolation can be fantastic, but the mix is what matters. It’s growing pains and every show has it, and everyone thinks chemistry is simple, but it’s not, otherwise everybody could do it.”
Rhea also has a simple suggestion to improve “The View”: “Hire me!” she said.
