The Two Faces Of January

Admirers of Anthony Minghella’s adap of The Talented Mr. Ripley should find bounty to delight in in this take on Patricia Highsmith’s 1964 novel, a fine-looking tale of conmen and sexual frisson in sun-soaked locales. Viggo Mortensen and Kirsten Dunst impress as the married couple taken in by Oscar Isaac’s charming American tour guide in Greece, only to then fight back with some devious plotting of their own.

Drive screenwriter Hossein Amini, here making his directorial debut, brings some ancient-fashioned élan, and the three-way poker game remains taut and fascinating throughout.
