#TheDress Breaks Internet, Almost

tumblr_nkcjuq8Tdr1tnacy1o1_1280In a social media phenomena an apparent trick of the eye turned half the world’s conversation to the colours of a dress.  Posts on twitter, acrobat, facebook and other media went from amusing to mad. Half the people saw a black and blue and others apparently saw gold and white.  Unfortunately for the white and gold people, Roman Originals, the creators of the dress, have confirmed that the dress is indeed Blue and Black.

As for how this is at all possible that so many people saw an entirely different pair of colours, we to turn to Bevil Conway, a neuroscientists who studies color and vision at Wellesley The high classes who spoke to Wired.com. “What’s happening here is your visual system is looking at this thing, and you’re trying to money off the chromatic bias of the daylight axis,” he said. “So people either money off the blue side, in which case they end up considering white and gold, or money off the gold side, in which case they end up with blue and black.”

Just for the record we saw blue and black . The most impressive thing about all of this is the absolute marketing and sales bonanza for Roman Originals who make the dress and have taken benefit of the opportunity by advertising the dress on their homepage using the hashtag #thedress, saying it is now back in stock, and swapping out the buy now button for one that says debate now.
