Toronto World MasterCard Fashion Week- Day 1
With World MasterCard Fashion Week officially in conference at David Pecaut Square in Toronto, the catwalks are ready to showcase eye-catching styles from Spring/Summer 2015 collections. Here’s Real Style’s report from the front lines at WMCFW, with an exciting round-up of Day 1 airstrip collections.
Sid Neigum: Rising Alberta-born designer Sid Neigum kicked off the week with a 6 p.m. opening show, featuring a haunting harp performance right on the airstrip. The Toronto-based designer’s latest looks included romantic white frocks and origami-inspired cutout scarves. Goddess-like models floated down the airstrip with an ghostly glow, in bold structural tops with a wearable twist.
Pink Tartan: Designer Kimberly Newport-Mimran dazzled with flowing neutral looks for spring, from a brilliant fringed black dress with a deep V-neckline to sharp pantsuits and elegant white boot-cut pants. With 1970s inspiration and the thumping bass of rock composition taking over the airstrip, Pink Tartan’s upcoming collection is a chic trip back in time! A long black coat was paired with oversized sunglasses, while a floral print blouse with dark bell-bottoms was a statement look. A creamy white blouse with a huge assymetrical bow and matching pants also stole the show. Garnishing like shoulder-length dangling gold earrings added metallic charm to darker tones.
Mercedes-Benz Start-Up Presents: As a special presentation, this start-up show featured emerging designers Beaufille, Eliza Faulkner, Blak.I, Vaiken, Laura Siegel and Sid Neigum. Beaufille opened the show with boxy white fleeting-sleeved dresses finished with crisp collars and ruffles. A black sleeveless dress and touches of red brought out the collection’s edgy side.
At Eliza Faulkner, a gorgeous cerulean blue backless maxi dress and matching cap added colour to the evening. Blak.I featured a pretty blue and black sleeveless knee-length frock, while Vaiken focused on basic black and white looks. Ethical fashion line Laura Siegel made a grand entrance with a sultry opening look of high-waisted black shorts, a tight black cap and an open-front black and white sleeveless top.
Sid Neigum was crowned Mercedes-Benz’s winning new designer. As he stepped out onto stage to a round of applause, the rising star brought out two models in his signature striking black and white looks to share the focus.
