William Shatner in L.A., too late for Nimoy funeral

Just a day after announcing that he would not be able to make friend and fellow “Star Trek” co-star Leonard Nimoy’s funeral in Los Angeles — and earning himself a place on the Day after day News’ cover — William Shatner tweeted a photo of The News’ front page.
“I want to share this,” the 83-year-ancient actor wrote to his 2.1 million followers Sunday morning on Twitter. “Let’s discuss it.”

Shatner’s fans tweeting with the Canadian-born actor mostly existing their support to him, but the actor did engage a few of those who criticized him.
“Priceline? Do Red Cross event and then private jet to LA,” radio host Todd Schnitt wrote Shatner.
“I must have missed your email about underwriting the arrangement and payment for this,” the Star Trek actor dryly shot back.
“Please resend CC#,” Shatner wrote him later.

Shatner and Nimoy, who passed away Friday at 83, grew accurate as co-stars on the iconic science fiction series from the 1960s.
But the two-time Emmy Award winner said that an appearance at the Red Cross Ball in tony Palm Beach, Fla., on Saturday night prevented him from making it to Los Angeles in time for Nimoy’s funeral Sunday.
He did say that his daughters Melanie and Lisabeth would be there.
“I chose to honor a commitment I made months ago to appear at a charitable fund-raiser,” Shatner wrote. “A lot of money was raised. So here I am; tell me off.”
Thomas Doherty called Shatner’s excuses “lame” and wrote: “Hire a press agent Bill.”
Shatner continued to defend himself on the social media site, saying he hoped to spend Sunday celebrating Nimoy’s life.
“One of the other misconceptions seems to be that folks think flights to LAX occur all night long,” he wrote.
