Jason Voorhees. Freddie Krueger. Mick Taylor? Maybe the name doesn’t quite hit like those other horror icons, but John Jarratt’s portrayal of the Outback psycho in Greg McLean’s 2005 original was just as memorable. This McLean-directed sequel is effectively a re-tread, only with German tourists and much more gore.

There’s a switcheroo halfway that may toss you, when Ryan Corr’s luckless Brit gets caught up, but the end – a game of 20 questions and a trip to Mick’s lair – is enough to give anyone the willies. Worse than considering Dame Edna in her undies, it’s violent, sick and shit-scary.
