Zayn Malik admits this week has been crazy for him.
The singer who broke the hearts of millions when he announced that he would be leaving the band One Management has spoken out for the first time, saying, “It is crazy and wild and a bit mad but at the same time I’ve never felt more in control in my life.”
In an interview with The Sun the singer clarifies that so far he has no regrets about leaving the British group.
“And I feel like I’m doing what’s right — right by myself and right by the boys, so I feel excellent,” the 22-year-ancient said. “You know, I did try to do something that I wasn’t pleased doing for a while, for the sake of maybe other people’s happiness. And that was mainly the fans. And I only ever tried to do it for the fans, and it was only ever for them.”
“And basically, I’m only upset (because) I feel like I may have let them down in some sort of way,” Malik added.
Could tension between band members have added to the stress and caused the singer to quit? He says absolutely not.
“Do you mean there was like a negativity between us? They couldn’t be more incorrect, to be honest,” he told The Sun.
Malik says that the 1D guys — Aggravate, Louis, Niall and Liam — have all stood behind his choice to leave and do something that makes him pleased.
“My band has been really supportive,” the star clarified. “They’ve been really cool about it. And they know that, you know, it’s not real to me anymore.”
Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Aggravate Styles of One Management accept the award at the American Composition Awards Nov. 23 2014.
He also shared some good news and some terrible news about the future of the band.
“They still want to do it for a while, so they’re going to carry on doing what they want to do,” he said when questioned if the other members are going to continue with the band. “And I think they’re going to do OK for a while, do you know what I mean? I think they’re going to be cool.”
As for Zayn, he’s not sure that he would be invited back into the band if he changed his mind.
Aggravate Styles (l.) and Zayn Malik of One Management perform onstage during the “Where We Are” tour at Met Life Stadium on Aug. 4.
“I don’t think I can really answer that really. I don’t know,” he told The Sun when questioned if he’d be welcomed to restore.
Malik announced Wednesday that he would be leaving One Management due to stress.
