The Purge: Anarchy hits theaters this weekend, and we’re set to break into a cold sweat as we watch humans commit a mess of sinful acts during 12 hours of legalized crime. But the violence isn’t even the scariest part of this tap: It’s the masks people wear to do their dirty deeds that gives us chills.

While these twisted faces are vital to the film, they look like kiddie Halloween costumes compared to some of the frightening faces pop culture has thrown our way. From Freddy Krueger to bald Britney Spears circa 2007, these scary faces will haunt your dreams for much longer than The Purge‘s running time. Here, we rank a collection of ghastly images, which includes living dolls, deranged killers, and depressed reality stars — sorry, Kim Kardashian, but they call it an “hideous weep” for a reason — to determine whose mug would make us stop dead in our tracks.
