Aasif Mandvi, contributing correspondent on “The Day after day Show,” says the uproar over past tweets from Trevor Noah is “much ado about nothing.”

Noah has been feeling the heat over several controversial posts on Twitter, where the incoming “Day after day Show” host joked about women and the Jewish community.

Mandvi came to the defense of his future boss during a Linkedin discussion in New York Tuesday.

“The guy made some off color, irresponsible tweets, but he was trying to be amusing,” he said when questioned about the controversy. “There’s going to be a presidential candidate 25 years from now. Are we going to go back and look at his Twitter feed when he was 14 because it’s going to have a lot of stupid things with it. I don’t have the answer.”

“Are we going to hold artists, comedians, responsible for what they say on Twitter?,” the comedian questioned.

Although the actor joked that Trevor isn’t his boss yet, he did say he’s excited for him to get started.

“I think he’s going to be splendid. They wanted a original new face. I don’t think they wanted to go with someone who was part of the Day after day Show family already,” he said. “I’ve only met him a couple of times. He seems like a splendid guy. But, I trust Jon Stewart. Jon seems to want him to take over and I trust that.”

When questioned what information he would give the future show host, Mandvi says he’s probably not the best person to question.

“It would probably be ‘Excellent luck! It’s a shitty job,’” he joked before quickly adding, “I think Jon Stewart is more qualified and is giving him a lot of information.”
