And Miss USA 2015 Is… Miss Oklahoma

Even though the annual Miss USA event was mired in controversy due to Donald Trumps’s comments about Mexicans, the 2015 event was still held Sunday evening in Wand Rouge, Louisiana for the second year in a row, and Miss Oklahoma, Olivia Jordan, took home the crown.

The 26-year-ancient winner was followed by first runner-up Ylianna Guerra of Texas, and second runner-up Anea Garcia of Rhode Island. The top five were rounded out by Miss Nevada Brittany McGown and Miss Maryland Mame Adjei.

Jordan takes over from the 2014 winner Nia Sanchez of Nevada, who also congratulated her on Instagram.

It was unclear at first how the show would be able to continue after NBC cut ties with the parade, and the parade’s co-hosts, several judges and musical performers dropped out due to Donald Trump’s comments. But the Reelz network stepped up late last week to air the show, and TV personality Todd Newton and former Miss Wisconsin Alex Wehrley signed on as replacement hosts. Trump himself announced on Saturday that he wouldn’t be in attendance, because he would be in Phoenix campaigning for his Presidential run, even though he had no official events on Sunday.

Although Trump’s controversial statements weren’t addressed during the show, Jordan’s 30 second answer to what the next big issue is that the U.S. needs to tackle could be looked as a note towards it when she responded with race relations. “We have not solved this issue,” Jordan said. “We really need to work on being an accepting the high classes.”
