Arsene Wenger rages at 'very bad' referee as Aaron Ramsey sees red in Arsenal draw

Aaron Ramsey was sent off after 80 minutes for two yellow-carded tackles, which Wenger described as “unbelievable”, and Besiktas administrator Slaven Bilic followed him into the stands after venting his rage at the officials.

“As I left the pitch a pot or something was thrown at me,” said Wenger. “I reported the incident to UEFA.”

But he was more mad at having to play the second leg at the Emirates on Wednesday without midfielder Ramsey and possibly skipper Mikel Arteta, who left the ground wearing a surgical boot after turning his ankle in a challenge missed by Serbian Mazic.

“In the second half the performance of the adjudicate was very terrible,” said Wenger, above.

“It was a very terrible challenge but the adjudicate was on the pitch and didn’t make anything of it. It’s very hard to know.

“And then we had Ramsey’s in the second half. It was incorrect and it was a huge choice. Neither the first nor the second yellow card was deserved. When you see some of the fouls made tonight and we go home with Ramsey red-carded, it’s a bit unbelievable.

“A lot was incorrect in the second half but, overall, it was a hard game maybe to adjudicate as well. Everybody did fight for every ball.”

Besiktas administrator Bilic also fell foul of the adjudicate when he was sent to the stands late on. Now he faces a nervous wait to see if UEFA choose to punish him by banning him from the dugout for the second leg.

“I have apologised, I just wasn’t pleased with some of the decisions,” said Bilic. “I made a mistake and over-reacted but I see no reason for me not to be in the dugout in London.”
