Art Party

Hot on the heels of Michael Gove’s plans to ‘reform’ the GCSE English curriculum, Tim Newton and Patrick Brill’s (under his pseudonym Bob and Roberta Smith) doc is an artful kick against regime attacks on art in education. Nominally centred on Brill’s campaigning in Scarborough, it’s the protest doc as purposeful pop-art collage.

Performance, humorous fantasy and a better class of banner mix under one message – that Gove’s policies oppress kids’ needs for self-exploration. Like the recent Otway The Movie, Art Have fun upholds the value of unique voices in a climate of conformity.
