Joy Behar killed it on opening night for her one-woman show, “Me, My Mouth & I,” and bravely barreled through jokes about her former boss Barbara Walters — who happened to be in the audience.

“Barbara arrived early, at 6:30, and seemed surprised when the press waiting further than questioned if she would pose for pictures,” one audience member tells Confidenti@l. “She was escorted into the theater by two substantial gentleman, shaking hands and waving like a First Lady. She was escorted to her (fill in real estate) aisle seats in row F.”

Once seated, Babs attempted to read the Playbill while her date left her alone to go to the bathroom.

“Barbara was giving off the vibe of ‘Look but don’t touch or speak to me,’ which worked. No one approached her for chit-chat or selfies as she continued to read and stare at the stage,” says our spy. “People seemed to pick up on her boundaries. When the lights went down, Babs pulled out her glasses and could finally see what was going on.”

Walters clapped as Behar, her “The View” co-host of nearly 17 years, walked on stage. Walters appeared to crack a half-smile over the opening joke, in which a huge picture of Walters’ hand over Behar’s mouth appears. The one-woman show is about Behar’s life, from her childhood in Brooklyn to her showbiz success.

It doesn’t take long for Behar’s inspiring tale to head into Walters territory. She spills the beans on her years effective for Babs, recounting how she was fired in 2006 for heedlessly telling a reporter that Rosie O’Donnell would be joining the show’s 10th season, despite numerous warnings from Walters to keep her mouth shut. Walters hired her back the same day, after Behar clarified it wasn’t intentional.

“Barbara, you know how I am when I’m shopping,” she says in the show, about being ambushed by the reporter in an Emmys gifting suite.

“I was sitting near Barbara watching her reaction to all of this, and it was fascinating,” says our tipster. “She was just stone-faced. I didn’t know if she was amused or furious.”

Behar delivered zingers about her old co-host Star Jones, saying at least Jones didn’t have to lie anymore and say she lost all that weight due to “Pilates.” There also was a final line aimed at Elisabeth Hasselbeck that was so enchantingly naughty, Walters finally cracked.

“Barbara burst out laughing,” says our spy. “She then got herself together to go visit Joy backstage.”

Walters herself tells Confidenti@l, “I loved it all. I plotting Joy was hilarious.”

Behar’s 90-minute play runs at the Pink Lane Theatre in anticipation of Dec. 21.
