Today marks the opening of New York Fashion Week and a Throwback Thursday, which means we must celebrate this stylish tradition in the most vintage way possible. Once upon a time, Kimye had no meaning and NFL running back Reggie Bush was considered the brightest star Kris Jenner had managed to sink her teeth into. And in 2009, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were simply two of the front row guests positive the Y-3 fall collection. Separately. As in, they were not yet idealistically linked but were sitting so accurate! Do you think Reggie felt the endless like oozing out from Yeezy’s pores? Did Milla Jovovich feel awkward or really awkward?

Any casual fan of Keeping Up With the Kardashians knows that Kim and Kanye have known each other for years, and took their time before moving from friends to lovers. (A recent Instagram photo from sister Kourtney speaks to this point.) But in the midst of Kimye wedding plotting, it’s amusing to think back to a time when Kanye wasn’t rapping about his girl being a superstar all from a home movie, or an eight-month-ancient girl with a management for a name didn’t exist. The world, you guys. It’s crazy!

With NYFW underway, celebrities and well-dressed wannabes will flock to New York City in hopes of getting their photo taken. Only the elite will get front row seating, where they’ll putt on their best thinking face or bring their own refreshments. It’s a ritual that happens twice a year year in the Huge Apple–plus much more around the world–and should always be celebrated for its ability to make the oddest of pairings.
