Blacula: The Complete Collection

Blacula might be the perfect exploitation title. It’s the film in a word, and it’s a wordplay almost too much to take seriously. The same goes for the film – a camp ride through the vampire myth – but it’s still culturally extraordinary.

Not just the symbolic weight of a black predator, but the rich clash of vampire style and Harlem fashion, and the relaxed inclusion of gay characters, which speaks to complex inter-minority relations. The disc also includes a sequel, part of a wave of blaxpoitation horror started by Blacula.
