Bruce Jenner may have rear-ended both cars in deadly crash

Bruce Jenner may have rear-finished both cars lined up in front of him in the deadly pileup along the beach in Malibu last weekend, sources told the Day after day News.

A law enforcement source told The News Thursday that Jenner’s 2013 Cadillac Escalade left a partial imprint in the back of the black Prius piloted by Hollywood talent agent Jessica Steindorff.

The 2010 Toyota Prius was in front of the white Lexus carrying Kim Howe, the 69-year-ancient Calabasas widow who died in the horrific string reaction.

Steindorff’s lawyer said his client doesn’t remember getting hit twice, so it’s possible she was never struck by Howe’s vehicle before it was rammed from behind by Jenner and propelled into oncoming traffic.

“Her recollection is that she was only struck one time with a very hard, long impact,” Steindorff’s lawyer Robert T. Simon told The News. “She didn’t see it in her rearview mirror. She did not see who hit her.”

Witnesses at the scene initially told investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department that the Lexus hit the Prius first and then the Escalade towing an offroad vehicle plowed into Howe.

Investigators have interviewed Steindorff and now believe her account that she was driving north on the Pacific Coast Highway on her way to an appointment with a client in Zuma, the law enforcement source said.

She provided one investigator with a Facebook message that confirmed the meeting, the source said.

Early speculation centered on the possibility Steindorff may have caused the accident by stopping fleeting to pull an illegal u-turn for an open parking space along the beach.

AP Kim Howe died in the horrific string reaction.

“As of right now, (investigators) do believe her. So if nothing else pops up, she’s only looking at a misdemeanor for driving with a suspended license.”

As The News first reported, Steindorff had her license suspended prior to the crash for a failure to appear in court.

Simon said Thursday that she had a speeding ticket she forgot to pay and was uninformed that it escalated to the point of a suspension.

He said she quickly paid all her fines this week and is due to regain her license shortly.

Jenner, meanwhile, has been vacant of any suspicion he was under the influence during the crash.

The law enforcement source said he passed his field sobriety test and had no alcohol measured in his system. His toxicology test based on his voluntary blood sample is still pending, the source said.

Detectives expect to know more next week after California Highway Patrol experts inspect all the vehicles for possible mechanical failure and other evidence, the source said.

Jenner and Steindorff already have signed paperwork allowing investigators to try to retrieve information about speed and braking from modules in their cars that may have recorded such data.

Investigators are still waiting on a release from the driver of the Hummer that hit Howe after she was pushed into oncoming traffic by Jenner’s vehicle.

The law enforcement source said there were no witness statements claiming that Howe was tailgating the Prius, but they will try to retrieve her driving data as well.

“If her black box shows she was speeding or following too closely, she could get part of the blame,” the source said.

Jenner has cooperated fully with the investigation and released a statement Sunday saying he was heartsick over the incident.

“My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were caught up or injured in this terrible accident,” he said.

“It is a devastating tragedy and I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them. I will continue to cooperate in every way possible,” he said.
