Columbus Short gets bench warrant, bail increase after missing court again
Former “Scandal” actor Columbus Fleeting is expected in a Los Angeles courtroom Thursday and knows he might be cuffed and hauled to jail for missing a prior court date, his lawyer told the Day after day News.
“He’s not running from anything,” his lawyer Jeff Jacquet told the Day after day News. “He should be coming. He was here last night.”
Fleeting, 31, is battling a felony criminal case stemming from a bar fight in March and a break misdemeanor spousal battery charge involving his estranged wife.
He reportedly was in Barbados Wednesday when he was supposed to be in a different Los Angeles courtroom for the spousal abuse case.
The judge on that matter lost his patience following a prior missed appearance and issued a new bench warrant that raised Fleeting’s bail from $ 40,000 to a whopping $ 500,000.
“Believe it or not, it was a problem with his flight,” Jacquet told The News, explaining the Wednesday no-show.
Fleeting has pleaded not guilty to the felony battery of Felton Hyche III that allegedly took place March 15 at Gabe’s Bar and Grill in Los Angeles.
Hyche claimed Fleeting “viciously lunged” at him after they had a verbal disagreement further than an engagement have fun.
The 37-year-ancient resident of San Bernardino, Calif., claimed Fleeting knocked him to the ground with a “cowardly” sucker punch and left him for dead.
Fleeting, meanwhile, has claimed he was defending wife Tanee McCall, who has since filed a restraining order against him and lodged the spousal abuse claim now being prosecuted by the Los Angeles City Attorney.
In an interview with Atlanta’s V-103 radio rank, Fleeting admitted he was in a confrontation with Hyche.
He said he was mandatory to defend his wife against “highly impertinent behavior.”
