D. L. Hughley: Caitlyn Jenner looks like my P.E. teacher
Caitlyn Jenner (l.) was slammed by comedian D. L. Hughley, who said he didn’t think she deserved the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.
D. L. Hughley has made his opinion known about Caitlyn Jenner – but not everyone is laughing.
The comedian was questioned for his opinion about the reality star by a TMZ cameraman on Thursday, one day after Jenner accepted the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2015 ESPYs.
When questioned about Jenner receiving the honor named after the late tennis splendid, Hughley said that she was not on the same level as Ashe.
“(Ashe) fought AIDS with dignity and honor, and Caitlyn Jenner put on a dress. I don’t think it’s the same thing,” Hughley said.
Hughley was then questioned if he thinks Jenner is gorgeous.
“In a Mrs. Doubtfire way, yeah,” he added. “Bruce Jenner looks like every P.E. teacher I ever had.”
Despite getting slammed for his negative remarks about the 65-year-ancient star, Hughley has only doubled down regarding his opinions of her.
The former sitcom star tweeted side-by-side photos of the “I Am Cait” star and the Robin Williams character on Saturday.
“A bigwig tell me I’m incorrect,” he wrote, along with the hashtag “#TeamDL.”
Hughley received mixed reactions from his followers for the tweet.
“I’m just glad that someone had the courage to say that Jenner does not deserve that award. Thank you!” one fan tweeted him.
“Wooow you are seriously so irresponsible to use your fame to ruthlessly tough this woman,” another follower responded. “What did Jenner do to u?? pathetic.”
The comedian’s comments occurred the same week “Friday Night Lights” director Peter Berg was slammed for posting a transphobic meme about the former Olympian, for which he later apologized.
During her speech at the 2015 ESPYs, the former Olympian gave an emotional speech in which she said she hoped to encourage others to “accept people for who they are.”
