Christian Audigier, the French fashion designer behind the brands Ed Hardy and Von Dutch, has died at age 57 in Los Angeles. Audigier had been fighting a battle with cancer since January.

According to US Magazine, Audigier had told TMZ earlier that he was battling myelodysplastic syndrome, a bone disease. Gawker reports that Audigier went into a coma this week, and died on Thursday.

Audigier was born in Avignon, France in 1958, but was based in the United States. He was best known for his vivid tattoo inspired designs for Ed Hardy, which were based on the works of tattoo artist Don Hardy. But, the entrepreneur and designer was also known for his trucker hats for Von Dutch. In the past, Audigier had launched denim collections for American Outfitters and Bisou Bisou, as well as lines for brands like Levi’s, Diesel and American Eagle. His net worth is estimated at $ 250 million.
