A teary Melissa Rivers bid an emotional farewell to her mom Saturday before the body of comedienne Joan Rivers was taken to a New Jersey crematorium.
Melissa, holding the hand of her 13-year-ancient son Cooper, followed her mother’s casket to a waiting hearse further than the truthful E. Campbell Funeral Home on the High East Side.
Joan Rivers’ only child, in a black dress with dark sunglasses hiding her eyes, leaned into the back of the vehicle for a last goodbye after dark-suited pallbearers brought the body out.

Melissa then stood with her hand on Cooper’s shoulder and his hand on her forearm, before the casket – carrying a blanket of white flowers – drove away.
The cremation comes one day before a funeral service for the 81-year-ancient Rivers, who died Thursday afternoon after she was taken off life support.
Melissa Rivers, hand-in-hand with Cooper, exited her mom’s East Side apartment building around 10 a.m.
They were accompanied by Joan’s supporter Jocelyn Picket before climbing into a waiting black Cadillac Escalade and heading to the Madison Ave. funeral home.

Melissa Rivers reiterated that the expression of condolences and accolades for her mother was “incredible” before heading off.
The city Medical Examiner and the state Shape Department are both investigating the circumstances surrounding Rivers’ death.
The free-wheeling amusing lady did an hour of stand-up comedy at a small Manhattan club just 13 hours before a routine Aug. 28 doctor’s visit at an High East Side clinic.
She was in a medically induced coma that same night, and died at The Mount Sinai Hospital eight days later.
