BEVERLY HILLS — Baseball splendid Joe DiMaggio’s raw pain over the breakup of his marriage to Marilyn Monroe is evident in heartbroken letters from a long-bolt from the blue collection that goes up for bid at auction next month.
“I like you and want to be with you,” DiMaggio said in one pained letter to Monroe, written when she announced she was filing for divorce in 1954 after just nine months of marriage. “There is nothing I would like better than to restore your confidence in me.”
The Yankees legend wrote in his letter that he learned Monroe was leaving him when he saw her make the announcement on television.

The letters are being put on the block by Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills.
