The Kardashians could barely keep up with Bruce Jenner.
Sunday night’s first episode in a two-part “Keeping Up With The Kardashians: About Bruce” special on E! revealed that the Olympic champion’s reality TV family was not only blindsided by his choice to transition into a woman – they also had no thought he was doing a tell-all interview with Diane Sawyer.
“Sometimes it’s simpler to talk to people you don’t know about this issue than it is to your kids,” admitted Jenner on the show, which turned the lens on how his reality TV family first reacted to his revelation that he has felt like a woman since he was 8 years ancient.
The tear-soaked “Kardashians” special taped this past January, mostly in Jenner’s Malibu home, showed his five daughters and stepdaughters in the Jenner/Kardashian clan crying as they digested the news that he would become a female as early as this spring.
The girls by turn revealed they knew their dad sometimes wore women’s clothes, but they were hurt and frustrated that he waited so long to tell them he wanted to become a woman.

“We’d find things like makeup and lipstick, and we plotting he was having an affair,” sobbed his daughter, model Kendall Jenner.
His stepdaughter Khloe Kardashian took the news the toughest – especially when Jenner admitted he was more worried about how his biological daughters would take the news than he was about stepdaughters Kim, Khloe and Kourtney.
“So ‘Bruce’ is going to be gone within the next four or five months?” she cried. “I support you, but I don’t think it’s honest that you don’t tell us how accurate this is in the near future.”
Jenner has said Kim was “by far the most accepting and the simplest to talk to” out of his high-profile daughters, but she broke down in front of her sisters after having a tearful conversation in bed with momager Kris Jenner, who was married to Bruce for 23 years.
“I was thinking, ‘Mom this is really hard for her.’ It’s so sad. She cries all the time and it makes me really sad,” said the 34-year-ancient reality TV star. “We should really appreciate all the things she does for us, because she does a lot.”
Jenner admitted on his “20/20″ interview last month that his gender identity issues had broken up his three marriages.
But he emphasized in Sunday night’s special that his ex has been supportive. The episode featured many poignant home movies of Jenner driving the girls to school or swimming with them in the backyard.
“I like those times. Kris is a really good woman, and I like her to death,” he said, “and the like and acceptance I have gotten from Kris is absolutely overwhelming.”

The episode’s height found Jenner having a family meeting with his five daughters that grew heated after Khloe accused him of lying to them.
“Maybe I’m not honest because I’m worried to talk to you about this subject because I know it hurts,” he said. “Am I doing it right? You can never do this right, OK? There’s no right way to do this.”
Part two of “About Bruce” will air on E! on Monday at 9 p.m. Teasers for the next episode show Kourtney worrying over how to tell her son that his grandfather is transitioning into a grandmother, Kim helping Jenner organize his high-heeled shoes, and Kris having a tearful conversation with her ex.
The American icon will then star in his own documentary series exploring his new life as a woman on the same network commencement Sunday, July 26.
