From one troubled show to another.
Kathy Griffin made a big impression on “The View’s” producers as a guest last Monday. They’ve now batted around the thought of asking the comedian to deliberate a regular guest-hosting gig, which might lead to a full time position on the show, Confidenti@l has learned.
“She was splendid and has Whoopi (Goldberg)’ s backing. Whoopi likes Kathy,” says our insider at the talk show. “ ‘The View’ would be a perfect fit if Kathy wanted to glide to New York weekly. It’s a Monday-through-Thursday job and she can tour on the weekends, the best two nights to sell tickets.”
Another insider tells us Griffin — banned by another ABC show, “Live with Kelly and Michael,” after she insulted executive producer Michael Gelman — is welcome back to “The View” anytime and is “a splendid friend of the show.”
“Her name has been tossed around, yes,” says the second source. “She’s opinionated in a smart way and not argumentative for the sake of it.”
After Griffin’s appearance last week — during which she spilled on her abrupt “Fashion Police” exit, calling herself a “feminist” who doesn’t want to take women down — Goldberg tweeted: “Bravo @kathygriffin! You have to try it to know if you like it. You did and it wasn’t for you. And now, now a new exchange is going to come.”
Griffin unexpectedly quit “Fashion Police” amid the fallout from Giuliana Rancic’s Oscar-night note about Zendaya’s hair. On Tuesday — just days after Confidenti@l reported that E! execs had met to deliberate canceling the troubled show — the network announced it had scrapped its plot to bring the show back on March 31. E! said in a statement that it won’t restore in anticipation of September, but we hear that’s unlikely if they can’t fill Joan Rivers’ fabulous shoes.
“We look forward to taking this opportunity to refresh the show before the next awards season,” said the statement. “Our talented co-hosts Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski, along with executive producer Melissa Rivers, will continue their roles as we evolve the show into its next chapter for the legions of ‘Fashion Police’ fans around the world.”
A rep for “The View” didn’t respond to a request for note.
