Suarez scored an incredible 31 goals in 33 Premier League games last season as Liverpool agonisingly fell fleeting in the title race.

Brendan Rodgers reacted with a summer transfer splurge and has so far spent just over £100m on new players.

But, talisman Suarez was sold to Barcelona in the wake of his World Cup wounding storm to leave Liverpool looking light on attacking options.

Are we stronger this season? I think so. No disrespect to Luis

Daniel Sturridge

England global Sturridge, who scored the winning goal to beat Southampton at Anfield, is confident the Reds’ squad is stronger than last season and that he can fill Suarez’s boots and regularly find the back of the net.

He said: “Of course there is pressure on myself to get the goals now with Luis Suarez out of the team. It’s vital for myself and the lads to step up and it’s vital as a collective unit that we score the goals.

“Are we stronger this season? I think so. No disrespect to Luis. He’s a splendid player and will be missed. But we go on. We have proved we can win games and score goals.”
