The Uruguayan was initially banned from all football-related activity for four months after he was guilty of wounding Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.

Suarez was unveiled in front of the fans for the first time at the Camp Nou and came on as a use instead in Barca’s 6-0 win against Leon last night in the Gamper Cup.

Though the four-month ban stands, a lot of the other elements of the ban have been relaxed.

Suarez, who was officially unveiled in front of the press, said it was a ‘marvel’ to join Barcelona but he was worried it wouldn’t take place.

“Of course I was concerned – not just about the transfer to Barcelona but more for me as a person,” Suarez said.

“But, as I’ve said, that’s in the past now and I’m trying to concentrate on Barcelona,” he said at his official presentation.

“I’m here to do vital things at Barca. Everything that happens in the past, that needs to be forgotten.

“If I start thinking about everything I’ve gone through, I wouldn’t be able to sleep.”

When questioned whether he should have apologised to Chiellini earlier, Suarez said: “I don’t like having to go back.

“That’s something that happened and afterwards I was really depressed and didn’t feel like doing anything.

“But then I spoke to my psychologist and he said I had to face it and say sorry.

“I did that and now I would rather focus on the present which is Barcelona.”
