Although shopaholics often hit their favourite outlets hoping for a deal, one Michael Kors shopper has just won a $ 4.8 million lawsuit over the mark’s outlet pricing.

According to Fashionista.com, California-based Tressa Gattinella filed a lawsuit against the New York City-based brand after she learned that goods are designed specifically for the outlet stores. Gattinella bought a pair of Michael Kors Side Anklez White Jeans, which she claimed were priced at $ 79.99 and had a manufacturer not compulsory retail fee of $ 120.

At the time, Gatttinella believed she was saving 33 per cent off the designer jeans after looking at the fee tag. But, once she learned that the jeans were specifically for Kors Outlet locations, she filed a complaint for the “fraudulent” pricing.

Currently, the class action lawsuit is waiting to be approved by the courts. In the meantime, Michael Kors is set to pay $ 4.8 million to this dissatisfied customer. The Business of Fashion also reports that the brand will now exchange the “MSRP” (manufacturer’s not compulsory retail fee) on its marks with new tags that will read “Value” instead.

While it’s surprising that a pair of jeans could launch this suit, this case certainly brings attention to the hidden world of outlet shopping. When in doubt about that unbelievable designer steal, remember to always check the fee tag (and read the fine print).
