NYFW 2014: The Best Of Day One

New York Fashion Week just started but we’re already considering some big fashion hits from designers for the Spring/Summer 2015 collections. It looks like this year’s trends will be flowing into 2015 with crop tops, florals and pastels being a huge hit on the catwalks. But don’t be deceived into thinking that all is the same. While we may be considering hints of 2014′s fashion, NYFW is giving us the new and improved versions. There were so many splendid shows, but we managed to choose five of the best from day one of NYFW. Here are our picks for NYFW best fashion so far:

Coach

Our first hit of pastel comes from Coach. Along with leather pieces, seen here in orange and brown, Coach also followed the ’60s trend with their fur jackets – also pastel. We’re also in like with the mod sweeping bangs hairstyle. The whole line invented up images of Woodstock but with a modern panache.

Tadashi Shoji

Florals are back with a very feminine look thanks to Todashi Shoji’s stained-glass print. Taken into a crop top, it’s clear that the bare midriff trend is still going strong. But, as seen on Todashi Shoji’s airstrip, we’re looking at a slightly subdued crop and more of a top for Spring/Summer 2015. Again, a light periwinkle blue was a main colour for NYFW catwalks.

BCBG

Clean, simple, classic lines with a bohemian twist are what we’ve come to expect from Lubov Azria – this year at NYFW was no uncommon. BCBG open a slew of lightweight, flowy pieces ranging from jumpsuits to dresses in delightful shades of pastel pinks and blues. The entire collection recalled a California-livin’ vibe thanks so its free-from cuts and sun-bleached shades.

Creatures Of The Wind

Stripes were the dominating print at Creatures of The Wind, but it too was full of florals and pale blues. Although a mix of prints would’ve been fine, the choice to keep one print per model was wise with such an eclectic collection. Everything from leather jackets to bralette tops was on show at NYFW and the combination of grunge, lace and florals made a settled impression from Creatures of The Wind.

Tome

Tome used quite a lot of floral lace to add delicate texture to their structured pleats and cropped bombers. The pencil skirts and bustier fashions no only held the attention of the NYFW crowd, but trapped our eye as the juxtaposition of stucture, lace and florals made us want these pieces even more.
