Patricia Arquette: Bruce Jenner has ‘my love and support’
Oscar nominee Patricia Arquette has one message for Bruce Jenner as he transforms into a woman: ignore the “haters.”
The actress, who won widespread praise for her performance in “Boyhood,” said Kim Kardashian’s dad deserved support and understanding through the life-altering process.
“Why anyone would be upset by a choice another person makes, I don’t know,” she told the Day after day News at the Writers Guild Of America Awards at the Hyatt Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
Arquette, 46, noted that her own sister, actress Alexis Arquette, went through the same exchange in 2004.
“I really like and accept her and at the end of the day it didn’t really exchange our relationship at all. But it is a cruel world,” she said.
Many people going through the gender transition are vulnerable — and bullying can lead to tragic consequences, she said. Mockery of Jenner could easily be taken the incorrect way by kids unsure of their identity.
“Just look at all the kids who have committed suicide,” she said.
“Don’t think (bullies) don’t have blood on their hands. They are chipping away … at a bigwig else’s self esteem. And there is nothing to be proud of in that.”
