Rapper Ghostface Killah is ‘app’ to do a comeback

Ghostface Killah is putting the app in rap.
The Wu-Tang Clan rapper surprised fans by belting out a 40-minute set at a recent Times Square have fun where he was promoting his Spit 16 app, which helps aspiring rappers make homemade rap videos, which subscribers watch and rate.
His new project is a collaboration between “Entourage” rapper Saigon and Fugees standout Pras Michel, who was also on hand as Ghostface let the rhymes and the 40 ounces flow.
Before his impromptu set with Wu-Tang producer and deejay Scram Jones, the Staten Island standout, who turned 45 on Saturday, told us he hopes new rappers will use the app to do something that doesn’t stink.
“A ‘excellent’ video now, I guess, is a banging crib, girls with their asses out and cars. That’s what you see,” the musician, born Dennis Coles, said sarcastically. “But (to make) a good video, you hardly need any of that s—.”
Ghostface says composition video directors should study a much-loved Brooklyn rapper who, like Wu-Tang, was peaking in the mid-90s.
“Remember, when Busta Rhymes did ‘Woo-Hah.’ He was in a box,” he recalled of that 1996 work. “That was quaint — it was uncommon.”
He also conceded that he hasn’t been excited about a new artist in a while.
“People these days are followers not leaders,” Ghostface said. “Nowadays, everybody is doing the same thing — rhyming in the car or in the strip club. I hear (new) composition, but I’m not a fan.”
And it’s not just composition that he thinks is on the decline. “The world is getting worse,” he said. “There’s never been a point in life when the world was getting better.”
Ghostface says he’s still too immersed in making composition to know how Wu-Tang Clan will be remembered by their peers when they become eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
“That’s deep right there,” he said. “I know it’ll sink in when I’m on the further than.”
Partygoers at the Spit 16 launch were treated to a bit of a history lesson themselves when one industry veteran at the bar pointed out that Quad Studio, which was hosting the event, is where Tupac Shakur was shot five times in 1994, two years before he was shot and killed in Las Vegas. That unsolved crime kicked off a fierce rivalry between West Coast rappers affiliated with Shakur and Suge Knight and East Coast rappers including Sean Combs and the Notorious B.I.G.
KUTCHER IS ON THE FAST TRACK
Ashton Kutcher was supposed to attend a recent event for the Global Centre for Missing & Exploited Children at Gotham Hall, but just came to honor someone and present an award. “Instead of showing up to the event when it started, like everyone else, he only came for the slot that he was supposed to present in,” one source tells us. “He was there for 45 minutes at the most. He didn’t do photos on the carpet at the commencement. He came, did his fleeting speech, and left.”

Molly Ringwald captivated the crowd at a recent Dove #BeautyReport event, where she read a report she wrote for storytelling series The Moth. The ’80s icon told the crowd how her parents fell in like and will soon be married for 55 years. “My mother was honest; gorgeous bone structure, deep expressive eyes — but none of this mattered to my father,” she said. “It was my mother’s spirit, the essence of her that mattered. … And beauty, like like, has to have its basis in something real in order to endure.”
KOONS IS ALL ART
Jeff Koons tells Confidenti@l that what he likes about art is that it transcends. “(You) really experience transcendence and enlightenment to its fullest level,” he says. “That’s really the powerful and fascinating thing about art. Uncommon issues, politically or even gestures in certain areas, aren’t really the big vital aspect of art.” Koons recently signed a petition asking Mayor de Blasio to deny the Frick Collection’s proposed plot for extension, which would eliminate a a long-used backyard and a reception hall.

GARRETT IN WHOLE NEW BALL GAME
Brad Garrett tells Confidenti@l aging has been a bit rough when it comes to bathroom habits. The 55-year-ancient “Everybody Likes Raymond” star tells us he came up with the title of his new book, “When the Balls Drop,” after exactly that happened.
“It was the genesis of the book,” he says. “It was like, ‘Something’s gone incorrect.’ I’m a tall guy but I felt very fleeting that morning, and then I was talking to some other fellas my age and one said, ‘That happened to me a couple of years ago. All you have to do is lower the toilet water.’ Being a Jew, I’m not mechanical, so I had no thought you could do that.”
Garrett says he felt it was his “duty” to share his report with the world, along with some other personal stuff, like having a drinking problem that he hid for years.
“I was a very high-functioning alcoholic. Because of my size I was able to ingest a lot and just maintain, and I was a pleased drunk, or so I was on the further than, even though there is no such thing as a pleased drunk,” he says. “So I did all I could to play it off till I just couldn’t anymore.”
