MOLLY RINGWALD

Much was awkward about ’80s and ’90s style, least of all the trend of big flower hats. Why did we voluntarily leave the household with floral bouquets balanced on our heads?

And, alas, this trend was so cool, it spanned more than a decade. There’s some question over who exactly kicked it off, but we’ve decided that the culprit was Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink (1986) — and it was only cemented by Blossom star Mayim Bialik who wore the hats with pride from 1990-95. The worst part? The look birthed many secondary trends, including the wide-brimmed tent revival preacher style, and the floppy denim sailor hat. Neither of which improved upon the original.

From Original Prince of Bel Air’s Karyn Parsons to an ’80s-era Sarah Jessica Parker, let’s take a look back at some of the largest Blossom hat perpetrators, ever.
