Ringo Starr said that he was mad ‘for 20 years’ after The Beatles broke up, and he can;t remember whole years of his life due to drinking after the band’s split.
Ringo Starr said he was mad “for 20 years” after the Fab Four split up.
The Beatles drummer said he couldn’t remember whole years following the split and after he turned to drinking, reports the Times of London.
Starr, now 74, said: “I was mad. For 20 years. I had breaks in between of not being (mad). These days I can be mad but I’m not the Mad Hatter.”
Talking about a part of the 1970s and 80s, he adds: “I was drunk. I didn’t notice … some of those years are absolutely gone.”
He entered rehab with his wife, actress Barbara Bach, in 1988, says the Times.
The drummer has just released a new album, Postcards from Paradise.
A confirmed Los Angeles resident, he says he now leads a much healthier lifestyle.
“I do live healthily. I’m a vegetarian and I eat a lot of kale and broccoli. And a lot of berries. It works for me.”
Starr, one of the two surviving Beatles, is about to inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
“It was Paul (McCartney)’s thought. I’m just giving him a night out.”
