Saint Laurent Ad Banned For “Unhealthy” Skinny Model- See The Photos

SAINT LAURENT- UNDERWEIGHT MODEL HEDI SLIMANE

Although skinny, androgynous models are a common sight on the footbridge and in fashion ad campaigns, a new Saint Laurent ad has now been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority in the United Kingdom. According to Women’s Wear Day after day, the controversial Spring 2015 ads by creative director Hedi Slimane have now come under fire, due to their use of a seemingly underweight model.

The Saint Laurent ads feature 18-year-ancient model Kiki Willems, who is described as looking “unhealthily thin” in the black and white images. With her incredibly thin legs and visible, bony ribcage on show in the photos, the ASA has officially prohibited the ads.

The ASA cites the low body weight of Willems, which first came to light when the ad was published in Elle UK magazine.

“We consequently considered that the model appeared unhealthily underweight in the image and concluded that the ad was irresponsible,” said the ASA in their official ruling against the Saint Laurent ad.

Lately, the use of very thin models has been an issue in the fashion industry. In April, France announced a new law which calls for healthy models over a certain BMI (body mass index), as part of a new movement against anorexia.
