‘Spy’ gives Jude Law his hottest case in a while

Jude Law tells Confidenti@l he chose a role in “Spy” because it “tickled” his “fancy.”

“It depends what comes your way. It depends what is tickling your fancy at that particular time,” he said of his role as a charming spy. “I mean, maybe sometimes it takes something like this — a slow burn, a slow introduction, and then people go, ‘Oh he could do this.’ ”

Law admits he hasn’t been considered a sex symbol for some time, even though Confidenti@l still thinks he’s got the looks for it.

“I don’t know that I have been (a sex symbol) for a while,” he said, adding that his mom encourages him to do more comedic roles.

“My mom’s always said, ‘You’re amusing, you’re amusing.’ I’m like, no mom, I’m amusing to you. Because you still picture me when I’m like 3 years ancient,” he said. “Everyone’s amusing to their mom, right?”

His co-star Melissa McCarthy told us she likes her “Spy” character, but also might like to see a “Bridesmaids 2” take place.

“Maybe, maybe. But you know what, it’s like, go out with a bang. … I would despise to have it dinged with a second one,” she said. “That said, though, if those girls ever get together again, I’m in!”

BRODERICK MAY SWEAR OFF AWARDS

Buellller! At the Theatre World Awards on Monday, Matthew Broderick gave a prize to his “It’s Only a Play” co-star Micah Stock, who accidently dropped an F-bomb in his speech. Still on stage, Broderick, a dad with three kids, motioned to 9-year-ancient Kirra Gonzalez-Murphy, who handed out awards, to plug her ears. It got a big laugh. Stock got an even larger one when he quipped about the terms, “I guess you should learn them now.”

CLINTONS CLAIM B’WAY SPOTLIGHT

Call it two “Americans in a Theatre.” Bill and Hillary Clinton attended a performance of “An American in Paris” over the weekend. The crowd at the sold-out Palace Theatre went gaga over their appearance, and following the performance, the past Prez and current presidential contender went backstage and posed for photos and chatted with the cast and crew. One theatergoer told us, “The entire cast and crew loved meeting them, and the Clintons said the show was magnificent.”

SCIENTIST PREFERS TREKKER TREAT

The Force is not with astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson. The Manhattan-born stargazer told us he’s “not very excellent” to the upcoming “Star Wars” sequel. “I’m much more interested in ‘Star Trek,’ ” he says. For celestial entertainment, Tyson prefers nonfiction to science fiction. “The universe cheers me up,” he said. “Every day there’s new things to learn, new thoughts to have, new people to meet, and that’s really what drives me.”

KIERNAN REACHES TWITTER LIMIT

NY1 anchor Pat Kiernan doesn’t keep up with the Kardashians. On his Tuesday morning news show, Kiernan questioned traffic reporter Jamie Stelter if Caitlyn Jenner had a Twitter account prior to her transition. “I don’t think so,” answered Stelter, before asking, “Did you follow her on Twitter?” Kiernan answered, “I don’t follow any of the Kardashians.” Stelter reminded her colleague that Caitlyn is a Jenner, to which he dispassionately said, “I have a hard time distinguishing between them.”

ALEC LOOKS WHEEL TIRED

A yawning, weary-looking Alec Baldwin looked scruffy on a stroll around Greenwich Village with wife Hilaria and baby daughter Carmen, who wasn’t looking at the road while driving her little pink car. We hope Alec perks up! The couple have another baby on the way.
