“This could get dirty, so just how deep do you want this to go?” questions best friend Kane (Max Ryan) to Nicolas Cage’s mournful pack leader. “How deep is Hell?” comes his straight-faced response. And thus the bar is set for this largely forgettable generic thriller. Cage plays a reformed-criminal-turned-businessman who reopens old gangland wounds when he hunts down his teenage daughter’s kidnappers.

Clichés ricochet around every scene and Nic never quite convinces as a kick-ass action star even when in full Cage Rage mode, but a compelling report and a refreshing ending save the film from being completely banal.
