Two stars sort out the Douglas double feature
If considering Michael Douglas on screen reminds you of watching a young Kirk Douglas, you’re not alone. The younger Douglas was the guest of honor at the Warner Bros. and Dolce & Gabbana have fun at the Toronto Film Festival, where he brought down the household by sharing details of a recent father-son chat. “Dad called me about six months ago and he said, ‘You know, son, one of my old movies was on television and I was watching it, and I didn’t remember the movie,’ ” Michael recalled. “I said, ‘Dad, you’re 97 years ancient, that happens.’ ” The elder Douglas then said, “No, you don’t know, son. I watched the movie, then I realized it’s not me — it was you!”
Michael realized that “obviously half of me is him, so there are going to be behaviors and mannerisms” that are similar. He also noted how his father’s early nice-guy films went largely ignored, before Kirk got an Oscar nomination for playing a prickly character in “Champion.” Similarly, Michael is probably best known for playing a grubby trader in “Wall Road” and an adulterer in “Honest Attraction.” In his new film, “The Reach,” Michael stars as a businessman who goes on a hunting trip that brings out his nasty side again.
STONE AWED BY A LIZ ROLE
Forget diamonds and furs — Sharon Stone was awed by Elizabeth Taylor’s contributions to humanity. “She had the courage to go in and talk to the regime and say AIDS is a disease, it’s an epidemic, it’s not about sex,” Stone said at the 25th Project Angel Food gala. “It made me feel that I looked-for to be uncommon. I looked-for to use my power and my fame to be a different person.” Stone has been the amfAR Global fund-raising chairwoman since 1995.
NEIL’S BIG RING-DING
He’s now Doogie Hubby M.D. Neil Patrick Harris married David Burtka, his partner of 10 years, in Italy on Saturday. “We put the ’n’ and ’d’ in husband,” Harris tweeted, referring to the pair’s first initials. The pleased couple sported Tom Ford tuxes and loved a performance from Elton John, according to E! They’re already parents to 3-1/2-year-ancient twins Harper Grace and Gideon Scott. Congrats, guys.
JEN USES HER SWAG-GER
Free stuff was the icing on the cake for Jennifer Aniston. The “Friends” star was giddy at the Toronto Film Festival, where she exited a screening carrying a swag bag of beauty supplies. The 45-year-ancient actress was in Canada promoting her new film “Cake,” for which she dyed her well-known blondish locks brunette. If there’s anything in the bag Aniston doesn’t need, boyfriend Justin Theroux surely will get the leftovers.
A RINKY-DINK TRUMP
Tourists looking to attend the Central Park Horse Show starting next Thursday might have a hard time finding “Trump Rink” — because no such place exists. But that’s what the Wollman Rink is being called in all the promotional material for the upcoming horse show. Right, Donald Trump is a co-sponsor of the neighborly event, and the Trump Organization does manage the Central Park skating focal point. But the Parks Department is firm: The name remains Wollman Rink — as it has been since it was built in 1949 with a $ 600,000 donation from Kate Wollman.
SWIFT’S SONGS ARE DATED MATERIAL
Where will Taylor Swift get musical inspiration now? “I feel like watching my dating life has become a bit of a national pastime,” Swift says in the new Rolling Stone magazine. “And I’m just not comfortable providing that kind of entertainment anymore.” Swift, who’s been linked to John Mayer, Conor Kennedy and Aggravate Styles, says she’s also tired of being the butt of jokes on late-night TV and at award shows. The solution? “I just don’t date,” Swift says.

When a trio of pals got together at Emmett’s Pizza on McDougal St. to celebrate one of them landing a job at a law firm, they found themselves seated next to David Beckham and son Brooklyn. They said they were in town for Victoria Beckham’s fashion show. “After the Beckham boys left the restaurant, the bartender revealed to the ladies that Becks had stealthily covered the bill as a congratulations,” reports a pizzeria source.
